The Peddler has long been recognized as “The place for steak.” Our beef is specially selected heavy western beef. Precise aging adds the proper tenderness and texture. Only natural seasonings are used. All of the Peddler’s steaks are cooked over a glowing Tennessee hickory charcoal. Great Beef, all natural seasonings, exact aging, and real charcoal smoke is why The Peddler is “The Steak Place.”
The idea for the Peddler Steak House began at a motel in Sanford, N.C., where the owner charcoaled steaks for his family on a patio adjacent to the lobby. At first, visiting salesmen asked if the could buy steaks and use the grill, but as the requests increased, the owner cooked the steaks, serving them with a salad.
Eventually the refinement of his concept developed into the Peddler Steak House in Southern Pines, N.C. The operation was changed to serve Ribeye steaks, cut to order, with unlimited make-to-order custom salads. Our salads are still customized to your order with 40+ items to choose from, just now made to order in our kitchen for covid safety. While often imitated, we’ve never been duplicated.
More than five decades later, there are independent operations in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
You will still find warm, friendly faces of “The Peddler Families” affording you the finest aged beef available, complemented by our gourmet salad bar.

 Reservations are recommended; to make a reservation, please call the restaurant at 828-264-4433 between 3:30pm and 9:30pm (2:30 on Saturdays). We answer the phone before we are open so please don’t wait to call until the restaurant opens! All reservations will be confirmed the day of, and unconfirmed reservations may be transferred to the next party on the wait list.

We have implemented many changes to ensure that the Peddler is the safest place to eat in North Carolina. The biggest change is that, under the current guidance from the health department, we will be unable to offer self-service salad bar. Instead, we are able to offer custom, made-to-order salads - we are doing our best to make this better than a salad bar in every way - safer, faster, and cleaner! Salads are still unlimited and can be made exactly to your specifications.

LARGE PARTIES AND REHEARSAL DINNERS

The Peddler welcomes large parties and rehearsal dinners! Please make your reservation as far in advance as possible. We have extensive experience with large parties and will work closely with you to ensure that your party runs seamlessly.

Our private room seats up to 30 (26 adults fit comfortably), larger parties (up to 50) may reserve a full section of the restaurant, and parties of up to 80 may book adjoining sections. On a case-by-case basis, arrangements may be made to book the entire restaurant for your party Sunday-Thursday.

A prixe-fixe menu is available to ensure cost predictability, and can be customized to include any appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks your party would like.
