On Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 there was a fire at The Peddler Steakhouse. Due to the rapid response time and extraordinary efforts of the Boone Fire Department, the dining room and main structure of the building were not seriously damaged. The kitchen and storeroom were completely destroyed.
Fire Investigators have determined that the fire was accidental, and originated when plastic buckets fell from a shelf above onto the gas stove in the kitchen. The entire kitchen, as well as the electrical system, will have to be replaced. Because of the age of the building, extra efforts must be made to ensure that we meet current codes and regulations. Everything is in the works for repairs to begin as soon as possible. At this time, it looks like it will be approximately two months before we will be able to reopen the doors to the Peddler, but reopen we will.
We apologize to those who planned to spend holiday times with us, particularly those who had scheduled Christmas parties and holiday celebrations. We will do everything we can to accommodate you and help you secure alternate plans. We promise to extend Peddler cards and honor gift certificates past the expiration date for the amount of time that we are closed to rebuild.
We would like to thank the Boone Fire Department for doing an incredible job responding to the fire and extinguishing the blaze before more serious damage was sustained. We would like to thank this community for the overwhelming outpouring of support and assistance we have received. To all of the hotels, restaurants, churches, customers, current and past employees, friends, and neighbors who have contacted us to offer help and support—thank you. We are proud to be part of this community.
This year, we were blessed to celebrate our 40th year here in Boone. Fortunately, until now, we have had no major incidents. We will take this opportunity to bring you a totally up-to-code, better-functioning, more efficient Peddler Steakhouse ready for another 40 years. We look forward to seeing you then!
